Year 6 Update

Term 2 Week 6

This week in English, we have been finishing our refugee stories, practising our reading comprehension and beginning to learn and rehearse the poem we will be performing at the Christmas service this year. Our chosen poem is ‘The Darkling Thrush’ by Thomas Hardy. The children have been given a copy to practise with as homework this week, and it is quite a tough challenge, so please give them encouragement and some constructive feedback on their reading of it. The lyrics to our Christmas song can be found on the year 6 section of the HJS website, so some practice of this would also not go amiss!

In maths, we have been working to deepen our understanding of fractions, including multiplication and division.

Next week, we will be spending a whole day (Wednesday 18th) hand-sewing a seasonal decoration, so please ensure children have all the materials they will need for this in school by Monday (see last week’s School Comms for more details). If you are feeling crafty/ festive and are available to come in and lend a hand on that day, we’d love to have your help (no need to be an experienced sewer), so please let the office know if you can.

Merry Christmas!

The year 6 team.
