Camp Hestival

Midsummer barbecue and campout

It started out as a Friday evening barbecue to celebrate the summer, but over the years this event has grown into a full scale weekend festival.

Families camp overnight on our playing field, with priority booking going to the Year 6 children. During the course of Saturday afternoon, we welcome all of our children and their families, and we invite the families who will be joining the school in September to come along too to meet new friends and get to know the HJS community.

Admission is free, and we organise a licenced bar and a barbecue. We usually lay on a variety of entertainments, including circus workshops, yoga, face-painting and team games. The children usually organise a talent show, and there is often some real talent in the form of live bands and DJs.

As the sun goes down, non-campers leave the site and the campers gather around the campfire to toast marshmallows, sing songs and tell stories before settling down for a good night's sleep (!). More activity (slightly more lethargic) in the morning, and then home for a rest at about lunchtime.
