In October, just before the half term holiday, Year 5 children usually go away for three days to the Forest of Dean. For most children this is one of the highlights of their time at Henleaze Junior School. They spend two nights at Bristol City Council's outdoor pursuits centre, and during the days they have a packed programme of adventurous activities.
For many, this is the first time away from home. We mix the year group into two halves, jumbling up the classes so that everyone gets to make new friends.
In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, residential trips are not possible. However, we have converted the Dean Field Experience into two days of adventurous activity in the forest. returning home each evening after tea to get a good night's sleep in our own beds.
