    Term 3, Week 1

    Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and are back feeling refreshed and ready for our new term.

    Diary dates

    Monday 5th January 2026: INSET day – children not in school. 
    Tuesday 6th January 2026: First day of Term 3. 

    English

    Phonics: Revisiting as needed in each class

    Spelling
    Lesson 1: Practise spelling words using ‘ow’ and ‘ou’ You can support your child at home by helping them read and spell these words:
    – town
    – growl
    – clown
    – shout
    – mouth
    – cloud
    – mountain

    Lesson 2 Reviewing how to spell words that will be familiar from Year 1. You can support your child at home by helping them to read and spell these words:

    Writing
    We will be doing a 3 session poetry block. We will read, write and perform poetry with a humorous theme. 

    Reading
    We will read, analyse and perform a poem called ‘The Quangle Wangle’s Hat’. 

    Maths

    In maths, we will be learning about shape.
    We will be focusing on 3D shapes and naming them.
    We will be sorting shapes
    We will be counting the faces, vertices and edges on 3D shapes.

    Wider Curriculum

    Science: ‘Materials’: What are materials used for? Categorise and compare wood, metal, plastic and glass.
    PE: Gymnastics.
    PSHE: Health and wellbeing – healthy diet.
    Geography: We will be learning about what Nairobi is like and create a piece of art to depict what we would see, smell, hear, feel and taste if we were in Nairobi.
    Art: We will begin a new art block of ‘Printmaking’.
