The HJS Bake-Off takes off

Year 5 and 6 classes demonstrate their baking skills

On Monday 29th January, we were awash with cake. 534 cakes, to be precise.

Children who wanted to enter the competition baked a set of 6 cupcakes at home. There was a set recipe for the cakes, but the decoration was entirely up to them. There were between 10 and 20 entries per class - Class 6 had the highest number of enthusiastic bakers! During the course of the morning our team of judges (Mr Barber, Mr Parr, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Hughes) tested and tasted all the cakes, and awarded points for best design and best baking. You can see the winning cakes, and all of the entries, in our Bake Off Photo Album.

At the end of the day, all of the cakes were offered for sale. All the money raised will be used to buy supplies and equipment for Kasongoire Primary School in Uganda. Mr Barber will be visiting the school during the February half term holiday.

Year 3's Bake-Off takes place next Monday, 5th February, and the date for Year 4 classes will be announced shortly.
