Y6 6.10.17

Key messages from the Year 6 team from the 5th week of term.

October already, can you believe it?

Firstly, well done to the mathematicians who had a great afternoon on Tuesday competing against the best mathematical minds in Bristol! Sam, Joseph, Alex, Harry, Alys and Bella came 4th, 6th and 9th across two groups of 32 teams. Special thank you to our parent helpers and Mrs Atkinson for taking the team.

Next week in maths, we will be using our newly polished times tables to complete more complex multiplication problems - keep practising those tables at home they will make next week much easier!

In English, we will be drafting newspaper reports based on the Trial of Stanley Yelnets. Please keep an eye out for interesting articles at home. We are asking the children to bring in two on Tuesday for us to annotate in class.

In spelling, we are continuing suffix season with polysyllabic words where the stress is on the second syllable and the final consonant doubles (!)

e.g.

forget  forgetting

forgot  forgotten

begin  beginner

admit  admittance

prefer  preferred

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week at Parents' Evening and sharing how well the children have settled into life in Year 6.
