Literacy - We have published our final piece of writing based on the text 'Beowulf', a description of Grendel, the hellish monster who brough terror to the Danes. We are now moving on to writing an explanation text. This will really help us in other areas of the curriculum, especially science, as we will learn how to set out our ideas, and present them in a logical way, using clear and concise language. We will be explaining the water cycle, using scientific language and clear explanations of each stage.
Spelling - We are continuing with our spelling pattern of 'ible', as well as a set of orange words, which vary from class to class. Don't forget, we complete one 'Mr. Whoops' each week, and that reminds us which year 4 spellings we need to have a look over. It's all in the green spelling logs!
Maths - We are finishing our work on the number system and place value, looking at ordering and rounding numbers up to 1,000,000, as well as exploring negative numbers on a number line.
This evening it is the Deanfield information meeting, in the school hall at 6pm. This will be a great opportunity to find out more about the practicalities of what will happen during the week, in terms of drop offs and pick ups, as well as lots more information about the week itself. Hope to see you there!
In preparation for our art lessons coming up, where we will be designing and creating our own Viking shields, the year 5 team is asking for any large cereal boxes (flattened please!) to make the actual shields. The bigger boxes, such as the family size boxes, work best, but slightly smaller ones could also be useful. Thank you in advance!
