Year 4

Week beginning 21st October 2019

Hooray, we have reached the end of a long, busy and productive first term in year 4.

We have written some fabulous Greek Myths, become more confident with description and speech punctuation and have learnt how to expand noun phrases to engage the reader. Alongside these, we have worked hard on our place value, multiplication tables, addition and subtraction.

This week, in English we have been focusing on spellings and reading skills. We really enjoyed the spelling treasure hunt outside one sunny afternoon.

In maths this week, we have been continuing with addition and subtraction looking at efficient methods and estimating. Our focus has been the 7 times table.

We are looking forward to starting the second half of our topic, the Romans, including our trip to Caerleon on Thursday 10th December. We will be rehearsing our year group assembly next term, culminating in our performance to parents on the afternoon of Tuesday 26th November. As another creative home learning task and in preparation for our focus on Romans, we are asking children to make their own Roman shields over the next 2 weeks. We will be sending information home this Friday.

We will be moving on to new orange spelling words for next term.

We wish you all a happy and restful half term and look forward to starting with renewed energy and enthusiasm next term.
