The Great Henleaze Egg Race

For many, the highlight of the HJS year.

The children of Henleaze Junior School have been building and racing eggmobiles since Mr Barber first came as Headteacher in 2004. It is one of the highlights of the school year.

Children build their eggmobiles at home and bring them in to compete in the Eggotorium at the end of the spring term. The event takes the whole morning, and prize giving happens in the afternoon.

We challenge you to create something wonderful, something whacky, something fast, or something adventurous by way of a vehicle that will carry a hard boiled egg, just as far as a hard boiled egg can go!

Egg Race 2022

Lockdown egg racing

For the first time ever in the history of egg racing, in 2020 Henleaze Infant School children joined the competition, and eggmobiles were raced in houses and gardens all around Henleaze! This bold new adventure in moving eggs was brought about by the forced closure of all schools in the country two weeks before the great day. Not to be put off, HJS pupils made egmobiles at home and sent in their photos and videos. The children still attending school made eggmobiles in their classes and raced them in the Infant School hall. Thanks everyone for rising to the challenge!
